Bereavement Support Group

Meets the last Monday of every month, 10.30am – 12pm at Christ Church

The Bereavement Support Group began two years ago when God put it on Mary Brew’s heart to reach out to those who had suffered bereavement.

She tried to ignore God’s prompting for several months but eventually she got the message! God never wastes anything that has gone on in the past, and due to her own loss more than 16 years ago and being a psychiatric nurse with training in dealing with bereavement, she stepped out in faith to begin the journey.

Bereavement Support meets the last Monday of every month between 10.30am – 12pm. We always allow guests to tell their story and to share their pain and loss, but the overall aim of the group is to slowly move them on and to say, “Yes, it’s ok to start going out again socially – not on your own, but as part of a group. Gradually to help them recognise that life never will be the same but with a bit of support, at least it can be bearable.

We have just had our second “Time to Remember” service and that is so special, as God blesses that service so greatly.

The aim of the group is to give people HOPE and that can only come from JESUS.

I came to the group 18 months ago, destroyed by grief at the loss of my husband after 40 years together. I had no expectations of having any sort of life again. From the first minute I came to the Bereavement Group, I was welcomed and comforted by members of the group. It is a place to find support, to find understanding, to find friendship and to find hope.”
