Christ Church on Lord Street
was first built in 1821 and subsequently redeveloped in 1994.
The church has always served the town centre community through its extensive
programme of Sunday and midweek activities. Resourced by a staff
of 9 full and part time workers both ordained and lay the church and
its cafe seek to keep the doors open to the community throughout the
week. Teams of Street Pastors from Christ Church and other local
churches also patrol the streets on Saturday nights as an expression
of concern for the well being of those in town at that time.
With an estimated 1,500 people
across the threshold in an average week the ethos of the church is summed
up in its Mission Statement - "Christ Church, not just for Sundays".
There is a wide range of social and other midweek activities alongside
of course our Sunday Worship.
Recognising that we all live
in a culture of choice, the Vicar, Stewart Reid and his Curate Rev.
Sonya Marshall try to provide for different inclinations in our worship
services. At 9.30 the service is structured and more recognisably
Anglican in content while at 11.00 the service is led by a band and
has a child friendly family feel to it providing a range of children's
activities alongside the worship service. At 6.30pm there is a
focus on Bible Study and an associated young people's programme.
The church extends a warm welcome to all.
