Discipleship Course

Every Wednesday 7.30pm (term-time) at Christ Church

The Discipleship Group is a year-long course that meets at 7.30pm on a Wednesday night at Christ Church. The course starts each January and basically follows the school term-time calendar. It is aimed at Christians who want to deepen and widen their faith. It is for Christians who want to stop paddling and start swimming. In the course we aim to cover all the essential areas of what it means to be a Christian. Each week lasts for about an hour and a half and takes different forms: discussion, presentation, visiting speakers, questions, group work to name a few.

During the first few weeks we look at what it means to live a life for Christ and with Christ. In the first term, we look at the basic history of Christianity. We go on to look at many other areas of Christianity, including the Trinity, Stewardship, various Christian doctrines and praxis, Heaven, Hell and much more.

Our hope is that by the end of the course, the individuals in the group have a far deeper understanding of their Christian faith and more importantly, a far deeper relationship with God. We also hope they will have developed strong friendships in the group. We encourage all members to join (or return) to one of the small groups offered by the church.

The course has been written by Rob Milton and Phil Porter throughout a two-year period, with more than 400 hours invested. Course participants will end up with about 250 pages of notes. Joe and Lisa Rowe recently joined the leadership team and we have enjoyed working with them and seeing them grow, as they help to present the course.

We would encourage all members of the Church to consider attending the course. Over the past couple of years, we have seen an average of 15 attendees each year, but we would be delighted to have more. We all have personal responsibility to be the best we can be and whether new in your faith or 30 years plus, we all have new things to learn.

Our aim through the Discipleship Group is to help others live as the prince and princesses that God sees them to be. To live the life expressed so well in John 10:10, an abundant life, full of grace and Power through The Holy Spirit. Come and join us.
