Family Day

Thursdays 10.30am – 1.30pm (term-time) at Christ Church

Family Day began 10 years ago by a team of Christian mums and others within the church who were committed to working with pre-school children, their parents and carers. We meet Thursdays during term-time, from 10:30am – 1:30pm. We have different themes each week, based on termly ideas. During the Autumn our themes are based on nursery rhymes, leading up to Christmas, when we have a Christmas theme for a few weeks, ending with our party, a Christmas story and talk and then Father Christmas and presents.

The Spring term starts with activities based on the weather and the second half is based around shapes. We end the term with a story or talk about Easter based around new life and gift of chocolate. During the Summer term we base our activities on colour, going through the col-ours of the rainbow. The last few weeks of the year we usually look at various animals. We finish with a moving-on ceremony where each child going to school receives a children’s story Bible or book.

We have a range of zones with the hall. The craft zone always has at least four different activities. We have a small children and baby area which is surrounded by chairs so that mums/carers can sit and chat while observing their children. There is a role-play area in a room adjoining the halls, which has a play kitchen, house, dressing up clothes, etc.

We also cater for the large motor skills and have a bouncy castle, small slide, rocking horses, bikes, etc. This enables children living in small flats to have to opportunity to practise these skills in a safe environment. We cater for children from birth to reception.

Our aim is to do this in a loving, caring atmosphere, welcoming all who come whatever their ethnic background. We hope our visitors feel welcomed and want to learn more about the Church and our faith. Our aim is that they will come to ask what we are about and eventually become part of the wider Church family.
