Pat Gilmer

Photograph of Pat Gilmer, MBEPat has lived in Africa most of her life. She has worked with Mid Africa Ministries (now CMS) as a nurse in a leper colony on Lake Bunyonyi and then at Kisizi hospital. Currently Pat leads a project in Rukungiri Diocese Uganda supporting children born with cerebral palsy and other severe disabilities.

There are approximately 30,000 children registered under a project called ‘N.K.D./Rukungiri Growers Orphan & Disabled Children’s Project’ in which parents are encouraged to grow chilli crops which is exchanged for money to pay for the childrens’ welfare and education.

Pat has a team of eight who all serve in different ways – office staff, chilli crop advisors, occupation therapy, transportation of children to hospital and administering after-care.

Seven members from Christ Church visited Pat and her team in May 2004.

In 2003 Pat was awarded the MBE in recognition of her services.

Pat is currently training her team to take over from her when she retires next year.
